Indigenous Studies Writing and Discussion group
Thursday 10 March 2016

Students and Early Career Researchers in Indigenous Studies are affiliated with a number of centres and schools across campus (at CAEPR, NCIS and beyond). This group aims to get everybody together on a regular basis and will:

  • Promote peer support
  • Provide a space for HDR students and ECR involved in Indigenous Studies to get to know each other; this aspect of the group may be of particular significance for the HDR scholars at the ANU who are not enrolled or associated with CAEPR or NCIS
  • Support writing process in a friendly environment
  • Improve peer-reviewing capacities of participants

These sessions will be coordinated by the participants and participation will be based on their availability. Participants will be strongly encouraged to take part in and submit their work for the Read and Talk sessions.

This group aims to create a friendly environment to support the research writing process. Writing among peers offers a degree of social pressure which often helps overcome writing blockages. The short breaks between the writings blocks create a space where the writers can discuss their ideas with their peers; an exercise that is also helping the writing process. As the participants in this group share Indigenous research interests to varying degrees, this exchange of ideas can only lead to better research outcomes and design.

We will be holding weekly shut up and write sessions replaced, every fourth week, by peer review and discussion sessions.

We will be following a pomodoro technique, (that's 25mins writing with a 5 min break 4 times). You will also get FREE COFFEE at every session.

Time & venue:
Shut up and Write sessions begins on the second week of Semester 1, over 26 weeks on Tuesdays from 9 to 11am at Biginelli (level 5, School of Music).

Read and Talk sessions will replace the Shut up and Write sessions once every 4 weeks and will be held at Tuesdays from 9 to 11am alternatively at CAEPR and NCIS. Join us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1317581358268084/) or on our mailing list http://eepurl.com/bQy94b to know keep posted.
